Season 76 Begins at Racine Theatre Guild 

            The Racine Theatre Guild, a community theatre, is pleased to announce its 2013-14 season of plays and musicals. Since 1938, the RTG has been has been entertaining generations of area residents with an annual main-stage series. Subscription packages are now available, as are tickets for the July production, “The Rocky Horror Show.” Individual tickets for the shows running from September 2013 to June 2014 go on sale July 1.

            Season tickets and flex passes offer the lowest prices of the season. Basic subscriptions, priced from $50-$70, include reserved seats for five productions: “Suite Surrender,” “Deathtrap,” “Almost, Maine,” “37 Postcards” and “Les Miserables.” Subscribers may extend the season or exchange up to three of the regular-season plays with limited–run productions: “The Rocky Horror Show,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Miracle Worker.” For those with unpredictable schedules, flex pass packs provide five ($70) to eight ($112) discounted admissions that can be used for any or all of the eight RTG plays and musicals.

            Subscriber benefits have been expanded for the 76th season. There are early bird discounts and discounts on individual ticket purchases, a free season-preview open house with continental breakfast, and surprise benefits throughout the season. In addition, a returning subscriber may bring a friend along for free (some restrictions apply) and enjoy a complimentary snack and beverage at a performance of choice.   

 

Here then is the RTG’s 2013-2014 (76th) season:

· “The Rocky Horror Show,” music, lyrics and book by Richard O’Brien 
In this outrageous rock musical (for mature audiences), a newly engaged, clean-cut couple is stranded and seeks refuge at the Frankenstein place. Too late they learn it’s inhabited by a mad transvestite scientist, his muscular creation Rocky, and a slew of weirdos. 
July 19-27, 2013

· “Suite Surrender,” a farce by Michael McKeever
Two feuding divas, in Florida for a USO benefit, have inadvertently been booked into the same hotel suite. Mistaken identities, overblown egos, double entendres, and high-energy action round out this salute to Hollywood’s classic farces.
September 13-29, 2013

· “Deathtrap,” a thriller by Ira Levin
A successful writer of Broadway mysteries is struggling to overcome a dry spell when he receives a script from a college student that has “hit” written all over it. His plan is to steal the script and do away with the student. Or is it? 
October 25-November 10, 2013

· “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast,” music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman & Tim Rice, book by Linda Woolverton
Based on the Academy Award-winning animated film, this Broadway spectacle has unforgettable characters and dazzling production numbers, including “Be Our Guest” and the beloved title tune.

· “Almost, Maine,” a romantic comedy by John Cariani
On a cold, clear Friday night, as the Northern Lights hover in the star-filled sky above, residents of the remote community of Almost, Maine, find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways.

· “37 Postcards,” a comedy by Michael McKeever
After many years abroad, Avery Sutton learns you can go home again, but you never know what you’ll find. For starters, his parents’ house is tilted at a distinct angle, the dog hasn’t been fed in five years, and his late grandma is alive and kicking.

· “The Miracle Worker,” a classic drama by William Gibson
Central to this true and inspirational story is the volatile relationship between lonely teacher Annie Sullivan and her blind, deaf and mute student, Helen Keller. Only Annie recognizes the potential of the wild, destructive and spoiled child. 
April 4-13, 2014

· “Les Miserables,” a musical by Alain Boublil & Claude-Michel Schonberg, based on a novel by Victor Hugo
The world’s longest-running musical is set in revolutionary 19th-century France. After serving an unjust prison sentence, Jean Valjean breaks parole in hopes of starting anew, initiating a lifelong struggle for redemption and a relentless pursuit by Inspector Javert. May 16-June 1, 2014
