Dr. Kaplan grew up in South Florida where he developed an early interest in the sciences and was a high school winner of the prestigious statewide Junior Academy of Science competition. He pursued a rigorous course of education graduating from the University of Florida in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and the University Of Maryland School Of Dentistry in 1972.

Ongoing educational studies are important to Dr. Kaplan because he believes they bring new options for more effective treatment. Regular participation in seminars and professional courses each year allows Dr. Kaplan to stay up-to-date on the newest techniques for providing comfortable and advanced dental care to his patients. Dr. Kaplan is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry - an organization dedicated to advanced continuing dental education.

Dr. Kaplan is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Florida Dental Association, and the Central Florida District Dental Association and is a member and past president of the Marion County Dental Association. Community involvement is important to Dr. Kaplan. He is a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Ocala, a past Board member of Leadership Ocala/Marion and a member and past director of the Ocala/Marion County Chamber of Commerce.

Some of his other interests include hiking, kayaking, reading and occasional rock climbing. He and his wife also enjoy traveling and are avid cross-country skiers.
