Since it's founding in 1961 as a federally chartered credit union, McHenry County FCA has served the financial needs of its members and their families with an increasingly large and diverse range of services. Savings at your credit union are called "shares." This is done for a couple of reasons: 1) as a member, you share in the responsibility of directing the credit union when you vote for its Board of Directors; and 2) you share in the benefits of lower loan rates and higher dividends (interest) on savings that are traditionally offered by credit unions. Credit unions are not-for-profit cooperatives - in business to serve and benefit their members - not stockholders!
