THE PUB 

Thornton's Bar and Grille began as a modest 60-seat restaurant abutting it's sister-store, 'JP Thornton's Cafe & Deli'. A mere experiment at the time, the funky little pub began to take on a whole personality of its own. With a large 25 seat oakbar, eight tap handles, illuminated shelving and 42" flatscreen TVs, Thornton's attracted an unwaivering and dedicated bar crowd. Because of this, some have called Thornton's the "Cheers of South Portland". Funny enough, it is true that here everyone knows your name. And, well, upon first visit, you too will probably know everybodys name as well.

 THE DINING ROOM

One anniversary year into the project, as the word really started getting out about the funny little restaurant where the old Captain Newicks used to be, weekend nights became quite lively. In fact, so lively that it was nearly impossible to move at all once in the restaurant. Thus, something had to be done. One and a half years later, with the help and unwaivering dedication of the bar and grille patrons, the restaurant entered phase two of its infancy-known as the expansion. The expansion included the addition of a new dining room, bar,  banquet room and soon to be lounge. The dining room offers spacious seating for any party. A composition of booths and tables all center around a grand oversized river rock fireplace.  

THE ALCOVE 

In addition, we have a special space for larger parties up to 25 that are looking to have a more intimate group function. This space called, 'The Alcove' boasts views of the tidal marsh and is encompased by booth and free-chair seating.

BAR 2

An 18 seat european mahogany bar accompanies the new expansion.  

Bar 2 is always a nice neighborhood spot for any diner.  

AL FRESCO 

Dine amidst the beautiful summer weather, we also offer  Al Fresco dining. Thornton's Bar and Grille has five exclusive outdoor tables waiting for you and your summer cocktail. 

THE MALLARD ROOM

The expansion also included a 900sqft banquet room located inside Thornton's Bar & Grille. 

Situated on a tidal marsh, the Mallard Room boasts tranquility and privacy. Views of wildlife such as Egrets, Blue Heron, Canadian Geese, Mallard Ducks are common providing an interesting scene for guests.  Using fresh and local ingredients the Mallard Room menu is under the direction of Chef Kelli Thompson.
