We opened Marlo's House in the spring of 2004, in Garland, Texas, with a
true desire to share some outstanding food. If you've never had Mennonite
food then you are in for a treat!
We begin by making as many items as possible from scratch. By 'from
scratch' what we mean is exactly that... up to and including the pasta noodles
in our chicken noodle soup. It takes time to make these ingredients from
scratch but we feel the time invested is well worth the outcome. Making our
foods from scratch means we can be sure of the quality of what we serve.
Secondly, as Mennonites, we have access to a long tradition of some
outstanding recipes and meals. At the heart of the Mennonite tradition you
will find simplicity, and the foods Mennonites traditionally serve are simply
delightful. Unique blends and subtle seasonings are what distinguish
Mennonite foods. We work hard to make our meals according to authentic
Mennonite tradition, following recipes handed down from generation to
generation over hundreds of years.
Our Smoked Farmer's Sausage is a simple recipe, originating in Winkler,
Manitoba, consisting of lean pork shoulder ground, seasoned and smoked to
perfection! (No farmers were harmed in the making of our Smoked Farmer’s Sausage.)
At Marlo's House you will find a relaxed, easy atmosphere, where you can
make yourself at home, take your time, enjoy a good meal and have a friendly
conversation. When you tell your friends about us (and we hope that you do),
and they ask, “how was the food?” Just answer in true Mennonite fashion...
“mmmm, schmieckt schien!” (pronounced “sh-miked shine”) Which loosely
translated means, “mmmm, tastes lovely!”.
