Newport-Mesa, CA & Ketchum/Sun Valley, ID Artist, David Rau, has returned to his Costa Mesa & Anaheim studios to complete his most recent series of paintings – a deviation from his traditional photo realism style... kind of anyway. ”As an artist, I experiment with new concepts and styles in order to push my creative limits. My new work is a mixture of the abstract and photo realism - combining the vague and uncertain with what is real”, states Rau. Working between his two studios in Newport Beach California and Sun Valley Idaho, Rau embraces light and its impact on his subject matter. “Light changes all the time, making the subject matter do the same”, states Rau. “In my new body of work, I am attempting to freeze time, and I am visualizing this effect on light and movement in nature.”

Born in Los Angeles, California, in 1957, Rau studied at the Laguna School of Art, and first showed at the age of 22 at Laguna Beach’s Gallerie Orangerie followed later by shows in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Laguna Beach’s Pageant of The Masters, San Diego, Orcas Island, WA, Japan and Sun Valley, Idaho. Rau is recognized as a former sports portrait artist for teams such as: the Los Angeles RAMS, the San Diego PADRES and the Seattle MARINERS. His experience includes many years in Hollywood creating molds of all kinds for special effects for films as Predator 1, Big Trouble in Little China, Spaceballs, Poltergeist 2, Lost Boys, Back To The Future 2, and more. As most of the artist’s work is currently held by private collectors.  David Rau is available by appointment for commissions.
