The Source-Yoga ’n more” is Cape Girardeau’s only mind/body studio. We are devoted to helping people of all ages, sizes, and physical abilities relax, unwind, and move in a soothing and conveniently located space. “the Source-Yoga ’n more” provides a wide variety of Yoga, Pilates, Dance, QiGong, Tai Chi, and meditation classes, as well as private sessions, for practitioners of all ages and abilities. Our mission is to give students an opportunity to look within, refocus, and regain a sometimes lost sense of foundation and perspective. We take particular pride in our programs for beginning Yoga students, children, athletes, seniors and people in need of physical, mental, or spiritual reclamation of self all of which feature our approach: safe, compassionate and skillful teaching.
Our name, “the Source-Yoga ‘n more”, took time and many iterations before finally being born! We wanted the name of the studio to reflect our core beliefs as mind/body practitioners and instructors. Since we believe that the foundation of any endeavor (or structure or idea) is of paramount importance if you want to build anything that is strong, stable, and steady, we naturally turned towards yoga philosophy where one encounters the chakra system (chakra is the Sanskrit term meaning circle or wheel).
The Chakras
There are seven chakras each corresponding to a particular energy center in the spine. These energy centers are located at major branchings of the human nervous system beginning at the base of the spinal column, the first chakra, and moving upward to the top of the skull, the seventh chakra.
Theories on chakras fit within systems that link the human body and mind into a single unit, described as psychophysical, or sometimes called the ' bodymind’. There is a wide range of literature on chakra models, philosophy, and lore that underpin many philosophical systems. Chakras are considered to be a point or nexus of metaphysical and/or biophysical energy of the human body.
The first chakra, Muladhara, or the base chakra, is also known as the root chakra. It is the chakra associated with strength, foundation, and rootedness and is related to instinct, security, survival and also to basic human potential. It is represented by the color red.
At one end of the color spectrum, red corresponds with the physical world and is associated with warmth, passion, courage, heroic virtues, and stability, Muladhara is characterized by a strong will for survival. All survival issues have their place in this chakra. As roots grow into the soil, the earth, so does the root chakra connect us with the element Earth. It helps us by keeping our feet on the ground and to become and stay rooted. By the root chakra we draw in basic, earthy energies which is said to help us with surviving in our fast-paced and ever-changing society.
The Logo and Name
Our logo and name is our interpretation and representation of that first chakra. Our name ‘the Source” reflects that all things begin from a source-a wellspring, a foundation, rootedness, and strength. It is only from a strong source can one gain and grow whether that be physically, mentally, or spiritually. It is different for each individual. “Yoga’n’more” references the other mind/body offerings that we have in addition to the various styles of yoga.
At “the Source-Yoga ‘n more”, our aim is to offer you, no matter your age, gender, or physical ability, a place from which to ground your foundation and grow stronger and more steady doing what is right for you through a variety of mind/body offerings with trained, skilled, and caring instructors.
