Where do you go when you are looking for local information relevant to some of the largest communities, or suburbs, surrounding the Greater Columbia metropolitan area? Up until around 1987 when the first of four community newpapers was launched there wasn't really an outlet we could turn to to get information out easily. That's when residents surrounding the shores of Lake Murray started finding The Lake Murray News delivered to their mailboxes, or simply made available free of charge in convenience stores, bait and tackle shops, and on the check out counters of local merchants everywhere.
linc, inc.(formerly 2020 Publications), was born as the inspiration of local political campaign strategist, printer, and all around good guy, the late Rod Shealy, has grown to four community newspapers serving the Midlands and a fifth serving the community of St. George. Now being led by editor, managing partner and well known local musician, Kirk Luther, linc, inc. publishes over 32,000 newspapers weekly. Their strength lies in the age old tradition of "the town crier", binging local news, events, announcements, and information focusing on the communities surrounding Lake Murray, Cayce-West Columbia, Irmo, and Northeast Columbia. Accomplished by the efforts of staff writers as well as local contributing writers from local authorities ranging from fishing guides, to our local sherriffs, politicians, sailors, and school district superintendents, you can find a wide range of pertinent information about the state of our communities and the events and happenings that shape them.
In each edition you will also find a television guide, a weekly weather forecast, Church Directory, a crossword and other puzzle page, coupons, and a classifieds section including local real estate. and help wanted sections.
The publications are supported by a strong subscription base and the advertisements of local businesses throughout the midlands area. These local businesses rely on us to support them and ultimately strengthen our local economies, so wether you are looking for a fishing or sailing report, or who won the lastest golf tournament, school district news, or just want to do the jumble, when you pick up a paper and use their services, tell them where you saw their ad, as these newspapers provide more than a simple advertising platform and method for information distribution, they provide us with our sense of community that brings us together and encourages discussion and an awareness about all things local that are important to us.
