When Angel’s Food Market first opened in 1923, Mountain Road was a country lane leading to the few farms and waterfront cottages on the Pasadena peninsula. The Angel family sold snacks and drinks out of the front room of their farmhouse. In 1959 Andrew and Hallie Goodwin purchased the business which had grown into a bona-fide country store. The Goodwin’s daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Tom bought the store in 1970. Their three sons Tom, Andrew, and Walt, have all managed the business and their children have begun working in the store.

As the area around it has grown, so has Angel’s. The store is currently being expanded again to meet the needs of the community. Shoppers can look forward to a complete face-lift, wider aisles, and more variety in every department. What will not change is the emphasis on customer service and fresh, quality food.

Angel’s is known well beyond Pasadena for their Angel’s Famous Homemade Cole Slaw, Macaroni and Potato Salads. Angel’s ready-to-serve meals, including Fresh Salad Bar, Fried Chicken, Italian Specialties, Sour Beef and Dumplings and Maryland Crab Soup, have the same high reputation for quality and freshness.
